Keep it sparkling for life
How to clean, wear and store your diamond jewellery, and the myths that quietly harm it.
When a diamond looks dull, people often think the diamond has changed. It almost never has. A diamond does not lose its sparkle; it gets covered. A thin film of cream, oil, soap and dust sits on the surface and stops light from getting in and out. The good news is that it is easy to fix, and easier to prevent.
Try it yourself. Spray, brush and dry the ring, just as you would at home.

Home cleaning
Some guides, including GIA’s, use an ammonia-based cleaner instead. If your piece also has pearls or coloured stones, ask us before you clean it.

Everyday habits
Small habits protect a piece more than any cleaning routine.
Do
- Put jewellery on after makeup, perfume and hairspray.
- Take it off for the gym, swimming and heavy housework.
- Store each piece separately in a soft pouch.
- Check the claws and clasps every time you clean it.
Don’t
- Wear it in a pool or hot tub.
- Use bleach or other harsh chemicals.
- Scrub with toothpaste or baking soda.
- Keep pieces together in one box, where they can scratch each other.
Your care calendar
How often you wear a piece decides how often it needs care. Choose yours.
Care calendar
